We are a small school but a very big part of the community in Fochriw so are proud to share our journey and achievements.
This week we were very excited to welcome Gerald Jones MP to our wonderful school. Mr Jones is our local MP for Merthyr Tydfil and Rhymney.
Mr Jones joined the Foundation Phase on their 'Mile around the MUGA' our healthy schools initiative, took part in a Q&A session with Dosbarth Swansea City, celebrated our many achievements in our weekly celebration assembly, giving out the Anti-Bulying Ambassadors Certificates and finally had a portrait painted by our budding artists at Fochriw!

This term our topic is Thrills and Spills. For our immersion trip, we went to The Eden Centre to learn all about mechanisms and forces, and how to construct them. During our time there we created a mechanical arm, and had to create enough pressure to make it move. The second task was to create a formula one car using Lego. We had to program and code the car to move, in groups we then raced our cars!
This week was the start of our 'Immersion trips!' and as our Topic this term is the Egyptians, we went to Swansea University where we learnt all about them. We learnt about the Egyptian Gods, animals, how Egyptians dressed and we even got to take part in the mummification process! It was incredibly fun! Take a look at the pictures below and ask your child what they learnt!
To end the year off we decided that we would ask the year 6 to having a final photo for their time at Fochriw School. They did not expect what came next!!!
We wish Year 6 the best of luck on their new journey to the secondary school!!
Revered Williams came into school today to tell us the story of Noahs Ark. With this we also learnt a lot of important lessons, one being to look after our world. We always look forward to Reverend Williams fantastic assemblies!! We can't wait for the next one !!
On Monday 25th April, we were very lucky to be chosen to present to the Local Authority and representatives from Google on how we use Chromebooks and Google Apps for Education within our school. The Digital Leaders were a credit to the school, showing a fantastic understanding of how they used it within their learning.
From this we had fantastic feedback, especially how well the children presented! Da Iawn!
